Join UAW Local 2209 and the Getting Miles Athletic Club for the 2025 Beer Trail Mile Challenge!
If you kind of like running and really like beer this is your event. Join UAW Local 2209 and the Getting Miles Athletic Club for a beer run.
EACH PARTICIPANT MUST BE OVER 21 YEARS OF AGE ON RACE DAY AND HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER!
Here's how it works:
Run a trail mile and drink four beers.
The Beer Trail Mile rules are pretty simple. Each participant drinks four bottles or cans of beer and runs four laps around a trail loop that is at least 400 meters. The trail surface must either be grass, dirt, or gravel. The total distance run must be no less than one mile. Participants chug a beer, then run a lap, then chug a beer, then run a lap, then chug a beer, then run a lap, then chug a beer, then run a lap to the finish line. The trail beer mile winner is the first to drink all of the beers and cross the finish line first without vomiting.
Each participant must finish each beer in the transition zone before each lap begins. The transition zone is a nine meter area between the designated starting line and the finish line of the 400 meter trail.
The beer trail race begins with all the participants in the transition zone. Participants can move in the transition zone while drinking, but each participant must drink all beer in the transition zone before they can begin a lap.
Participants must drink canned or bottled beer that is 12 ounces in volume. Beer cans must not be modified (no shotgunning, puncturing the can, or squeezing the can). No straws or other devices that speed up the pouring process are permitted. The only action allowed is opening the can with the tab at the top or twisting off the bottle cap of a bottle by hand. No cans or bottles may be used that give an advantage by allowing the beer to pour at a faster rate (e.g. wide mouth bottles/cans).
Beer must be a minimum of 5% alcohol by volume.
Hard ciders, hard sodas, and other alcoholic sugary drinks are not acceptable. The beer must be a fermented alcoholic beverage brewed from malted cereal grains and flavored with hops.
Each beer can/bottle must not be opened until the competitor enters the transition zone on each lap.
Competitors who vomit before they finish the race must complete one penalty lap and beer at the end of the race (immediately after the completion of their 4th lap). Vomiting more than once during the race only requires one penalty beer and lap at the end.
When attempting a performance for the unofficial records, it is recommended to provide video evidence of the race and prove that all beer was sufficiently drank. This is achieved by tipping the empty beer over an empty container, collecting the containers and pouring the contents into a measuring cup to prove there is less than 4oz of liquid/foam remaining total across all four beers.
Top three male and female finishers will each receive a prize awarded by a local business.
There is not currently an official world record for a beer trail mile, so the winner of the day will become the "unofficial world record holder" for the Beer Trail Mile!
Better start training!
